Passport photo size reducer

Resize and compress your photo to India's Passport Seva digital upload spec: 35 x 45mm (630 x 810px), JPEG, under 250KB.

Privacy note: your photo is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to our backend.

This tool crops, resizes, and compresses your photo to fit the exact pixel dimensions and file size the Passport Seva portal requires. It does not edit your background, lighting, or remove glasses - make sure your photo already has a plain white background, a neutral expression, and is recent before processing.

Output: 630 x 810 px  |  JPEG  |  Target: under 250 KB

Your photo will be center-cropped to a 7:9 ratio, resized to exactly 630 x 810 pixels, and compressed as close to 250KB as possible without going over.

What is a Passport Photo Size Reducer?

A passport photo size reducer takes a regular photo, usually several megabytes straight from a phone camera, and converts it into the exact pixel dimensions and file size that an official portal will accept. For Indian passport applications this means two things at once: the image must be exactly 630 x 810 pixels (the digital equivalent of the 35 x 45mm print size), and the file itself must be small enough in kilobytes to pass the upload check. Getting either one wrong, even by a single pixel or a few extra kilobytes, causes the Passport Seva portal to reject the file. This tool handles the cropping, resizing, and compression together in one step.

Why Indian Passport Photos Get Rejected on Size

India's passport photo specification changed to a 35 x 45mm portrait format, which digitally works out to exactly 630 x 810 pixels, replacing the older 2x2 inch square format that is now only used for OCI cards. The Passport Seva portal performs an automated check on every upload: the file must be JPEG, the pixel dimensions must match exactly, and the file size must fall between roughly 10KB and 250KB. Smartphone photos are typically 3 to 8 MB, far too large and the wrong shape, so they get rejected immediately without a clear error message. Reducing the photo to the correct dimensions and file size before uploading avoids this entirely.

Use Cases for This Size Reducer

This tool is tuned specifically for the Passport Seva digital upload step used for new passport applications, renewals, and re-issues within India. Keep in mind that other Indian travel documents use different specifications: OCI cards still require a 51 x 51mm square photo, and e-Visa applications use a 35 x 45mm photo with a different file size cap, so a photo prepared for one should not be reused for the other. Always double check the specific portal's current requirements before submitting, since government photo specifications are updated from time to time.
